We are hatching a plan with Will, Neil and Paul from Ginception for Darwen's first gin and BBQ event on 1st June. Come along and meet the Ginception team, share some Middle Eastern inspired food and learn about their love of all things gin and their journey on turning a horsebox into a gin bar! (there might be a gin or two to try - purely for the sake of research!)
For now ... there may be more dishes added on the night....
Roasted Red Onions with a Walnut Salsa - Not sure this needs much explanation red onions are roasted and dotted with some soft goats cheese and drizzled with the warm dressing. Bish, bash, bosh .
Labneh - this homemade Middle Eastern soft cheese is regularly on the menu served sprinkled with pomegranate seeds, basil and olives.
We are going to do something sexy with aubergine (not quite sure yet what)
Roasted tomatoes served with yogurt dressing.
In the UK we regularly eat hummus cold but in Arabic countries they eat it warm too so tonight we are going to roast a tray of root vegetables and serve them on a bed of warm humus and sprinkled with sunflower seeds for a bit of crunch.
Slow roasted lamb tagine marinated with cinnamon, cumin, almonds and apricots - The last time I made this dish I left the kitchen window open. The smell attracted several neighbours, and when guests came in, they said that it smelled so good, they hoped it was coming from our house and not from someone else's! Its in the oven for 10 hours so when I say slow I mean slow!!
Alan is going to make his sexy Persian rice - this is a little bit of work, compared to regular white rice, but it is so worth it - the crispy crunchy butter topping is a total delight (as is Alan!)
For pudding we have warm, gooey, straight out of the oven chocolate brownies served with cream and ice cream.
Second pudding TBC (We always have TWO)
Fresh coffee served with a variety of after dinner mints - not just after eights - tonight we will bring out the posh stuff. There is also Yorkshire tea, mint tea, green tea, liquorice tea, pomegranate and apple tea and decaf coffee if anyone wants one.
