Alan and I don't usually bother with New Year - there is a lot of hype and you feel pressured into "doing" something which can be a bit pants if you are on your own - if you want to join us you are more than welcome. You don't have to stay till Midnight if you would rather get home earlier then that is fine x
We have had the most amazing year and all thanks to you guys - you come to dinner, eat, chat, share your stories, tell the world about WeFiFo and we have enjoyed every single event and made some fantastic new friends along the way.
Tonight is all about celebrating that year - so we are going to be cooking all the dishes that have been the star of the show, the ones that have got you making sex noises at the dinner table, the dishes that have made your heart sing (and mine when the plates come back empty!) It might look like a totally random list of dishes but to those of you who have been before they will make perfect sense. (if we have missed out your favourite do let us know.) PS if you have been before you will know that there are always extra dishes that make an appearance!
Drink on arrival
Homemade Labneh - a Middle Eastern yogurt cheese with olives, pistachios and basil - go on dip it in and give it a whirl.
Roasted Red Onions with a Walnut Salsa - Not sure this needs much explanation red onions are roasted and dotted with some soft goats cheese and drizzled with the warm dressing.
One of the dishes that we get asked to cook again and again is a cauliflower "cake" yes I know it sounds odd but trust me at least one of you will be begging me for the recipe!!
Vietnamese mango salad - the sweetness from the mango and the crunch from the carrots help combat the heat from the marinade. I can make it with or without ribeye steak.
Roast lemon turmeric and black pepper salmon - Turmeric is an old Indian spice used for thousands of years as a herb, this method gently flavours the salmon but leaves it moist, succulent and melt in the mouth.
Roasted chicken on a bed of green vegetables with a sweet tahini dressing.
Persian rice - this is Alan's dish, the one and only he cooks from scratch, unaided and without supervision.
Lemon Posset - I love all things lemony and thought that this is might be a good way to refreshen our pallets.
Home made ice-cream - Earlier in the year I tentatively started making my own ice-cream after eating another WeFiFo hosts and fell in love - and apparently you have too.
Alan loves a chocolate dessert so will have a think about meeting his every pudding desire ....
Then there is the mega cheeseboard - we are going to make a special trip to Waitrose for tonight there will be a selection of foreign and local cheese some hard, some soft - so soft they are practically gooey served with grapes, walnuts, figs, biscuits, quince jelly, membrillo, a plethora of biscuits and a snifter of port - would be rude not to!!
Freshly ground coffee served with a variety of after dinner mints - not just after eights - tonight we will bring out the posh stuff.
Our variety of liqueur coffees knows no bounds. We have whiskey, both Irish and Scottish, Brandy, Tia Maria, Baileys, Tequila, Rum, Amaretto; you name it we’ve got it !!! There is also Yorkshire tea, mint tea, green tea, liquorice tea, pomegranate and apple tea and decaf coffee if anyone wants one.
Glass of fizz to bring in the New Year.
