It was really only a matter of time before I shared some of my favourite dishes handed down to me by my Nona and my dad Giuseppe, tonight is a feast of Italian cucina povera, amazing dishes cooked with a few simple ingredients.
The cooking facilities in the nest are limited and therefore we struggle to safely deal with some dietary requirements and allergies, saying that this menu is very easily adaptable for people eating a vegetarian diet with a few slight dish adaptions but please do let me know when you book so that I can ensure I make enough food to cater for you.
We are going to start off the evening with a dish full of bread and crostini to dunk, crunch, dip and tear into bowls of salads and dips.
You can't beat that old tomato and mozzarella combination, two simple ingredients that make my heart sing, creamy buffalo mozzarella sliced and surrounded by a tomato salsa with wisps of oregano and lemon.
Orzo pesto pasta salad - if you love basil and Parmesan then one whiff of this will take you to a sun kissed Italian trattoria.
Aubergine caponata - my grandma always had a pot of this on the wood fired stove, it can be eaten hot as a stew, warm or cold as a starter but always with big chunks of bread.
Dish of mixed olives and balsamic vinegar - you are going to look at this dish and think what can she possibly do to this ingredient that makes it shine above and beyond the olives you can buy in any supermarket across the land and I will sit and watch and silently whisper in your ear the secrets of my magic.
Our fish dish tonight is still to be confirmed as Mark and I are going to have a fish cook off, the winning fish dish will make an appearance on the menu, the victor basking in glory, the looser will be doing the washing up! (served with rice)
Chicken puttanesca - A true Neapolitan dish where the defining component is the marinade which is reduced to a thickness that makes it stick kicking and screaming to the chicken, there will be plenty of this lovely, deep, gutsy sauce to soak up into the crispy, garlic roasted crushed potatoes that we will be serving it with. If you are vegetarian let me know when you book and I can put some of this sauce into a roasted aubergine instead of the chicken.
For pudding my mum Isabel is coming along to help me whip up an Italian classic - Tiramisu, using strong black coffee and a splash of espresso martini, sponge fingers are soaked as the base, clouds of whipped mascarpone are layered in between and the top sprinkled with a crushed, roasted coffee bean and dark chocolate crumb, the ultimate dish of decadence.
Meringues kisses sandwiched together with whipped cream (there's always meringue!!)
Please only book to sit with people you are allowed to sit with at the time of government guidance. The bar will be open from 6.00pm with dinner being served at 7.30pm. Sorry folks we have a very limited number of tables for two due to space, once these are full your booking may not be accepted or confirmed.
We will be operating a table service, so no going to the bar, with one member of the nest team looking after you with drinks orders, food and any other requests.
Please follow the one way system and adhere to all the COVID precautions put in place including handwashing and distancing. The ticket price includes one gin drink that Mark and Tom will pair to go with the food.
