Come and join us at the kitchen table for a heartwarming Sudanese style meal from my family recipes. This is North African food - rich tasty stews and zingy salads, spiced but not hot-spicy, aromatic middle eastern flavours alongside more rustic African dishes.
Enjoy some great company (we expect!) and leave feeling full.
Welcome drink of Karkadi (chilled hibiscus flower drink)
Mezze of: Homemade special Hummus, Fuul Medames (stewed brown beans) and Mish (spicy white-cheese dip) served with Flat breads.
Chicken Rijla - hearty stew combining chicken, red lentils and spinach.
Cardamom-infused rice made with ghee and fried onion.
Tomato and Peanut butter Salad with lime.
Grilled Aubergine Salad with tahini-yoghurt dressing.
Basbousa (a semolina coconut cake drizzled with orange flower syrup) served with whipped cream.
Sudanese style spiced, sweet black tea;
Homemade walnut cookies (if you’re too full, I’ll pop them in a bag to take home!)
Regular tea and coffee and soft drinks also offered.
Bring your own wine/beer if you like.
Vegetarian option of main dish if requested.

Amani and husband Andy were great hosts making you feel welcome and relaxed (this was my first such event so warm welcome was appreciated and helped set the tone for the evening). The food was very good and Amani was able to explain details of the dish and culture of Sudan. One of the traditions of Sudan is to ensure guests are welcomed and offered plenty of food which Amani certainly delivered on. I would definitely attend another event.
