At Wefifo we love birthdays and think all of them are special, not just the big ones. Come along, help us celebrate Luke's birthday and as if by magic you will also be helping raise money for Andy's Indian adventure helping UK-based grassroots charity, Chennai Challenge conduct their annual work in a South Indian orphanage.
A large board of all things charcuterie, salamis, chorizo, olives, air dried hams served with a variety of breads to tear and share.
Tortilla - this classic Spanish dish is heaven on a plate. Quite simply eggs, potatoes and some sweet Spanish onion.
Feta salad with spinach, sumac, pine nuts and croutons - this is a really interesting twist on a salad. The citrus rush of the sumac mixed with the saltiness of the feta, the softness of the spinach with the crunch of the pinenuts and croutons means every mouthful is different.
Now for the hot stuff….. not Alan, the FOOD!
Halloumi with roasted carrot, mint and ginger tomatoes with a cider vinegar, Dijon mustard and honey dressing.
Patatas al Pobre – Translates literally as poor man’s potatoes - warm Maris piper potatoes oven baked with mixed peppers and onions, these always go down a treat.
Chicken with a Mustard and Smoked Paprika Marinade - My mum is Spanish and every time one of us goes over to see family my requests are bring back saffron and sweet smoked paprika both of which are used in this dish.
Roast butternut squash with a spicy tahini dressing - A secret mixture of lemon, garlic, chilli, tahini and parsley is drizzled over warm butternut squash and garnished with toasted walnuts and pine nuts, guaranteed to disappear as soon as it hits the table.
Albondigas – you will always find these on tapas menus. The thing that makes these homemade beef meatballs special is the sauce. The meatballs are first fried in an onion and smoked garlic infused olive oil until golden brown then a slightly spicy sun dried tomato pasata is added. This is then simmered until reduced to a thick, picante, yummy deep sunny sauce.
Summer Fruit Eton Mess – strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries and any other berries I can get my hands layered with homemade crunchy meringue kisses, vanilla ice cream, softly whipped cream and drizzled with a passion fruit and lime coulis.
Then there is the mega cheeseboard - There will be a selection of foreign and local cheese some hard, some soft - so soft they are practically gooey served with grapes, walnuts, figs, biscuits, membrillo, a plethora of biscuits and a snifter of port - would be rude not to!!
Ground coffee served with a variety of after dinner mints - not just after eights - tonight we will bring out the posh stuff. Our variety of liqueur coffees knows no bounds. We have whiskey, both Irish and Scottish, Brandy, Tia Maria, Baileys, Tequila, Rum, Amaretto; you name it we’ve got it !!! There is also Yorkshire tea, mint tea, green tea, liquorice tea, pomegranate and apple tea and decaf coffee if anyone wants one.
