We all have our comfort food from our childhood. Food that we go back to again and again. The smell and fragrance of such food rekindles fond memories of days gone by where thing move slowly and life is at a slower pace.
This dinner will feature a slow braised belly pork in soy sauce, accompanied by eggs, potatoes and tofu puffs.
But why the slow race, you might ask? Well in the colonial days, my dad used to win the slow bicycle race. So when I think of slow, I think of his feat in this area and he was the defending champion many, many times. So this meal is memory of my dad, and our wholesome meals way back in the days yonder.
In the good old days we even eat this meal with hands, Malay or Indian Style! The meal is true good old fusion food. The pork is cooked Chinese Style, slowly braised over a low fire. I will also serve it traditional style - with slow braised pickled mustard leaves. The mustard leaves balances the rich meat. In addition, if you fancy something spicy, there is sambal, which is pounded chilli with 'belachan'. Belachan is originally a Malay condiment made of shrimps (tastes like fish sauce) and the Nyonyas have hijacked it! Today you can still find Malays, Indians and Chinese enjoying their sambals!! ( Nyonya and Baba are Straits Born Chinese). Of course, if you prefer it without sambal, just like the rest of my family, it meal is equally delicious.
The meal will be served Malaysian style, where we eat with fork and spoon. All The dishes are put on the table and guests help themselves to the food. I might eat with my hands! You can do, too.
The evening will be slow, hopefully, where we enjoy each others' company.

This was our first supper with WeFiFo and Loretta made us very welcome. We were a group of three friends. Loretta cooked a delicious three course Malaysian meal and taught us the correct way to use chopsticks for the noodles. The main course was Lorbak; a pork dish and family favourite that Loretta had learned to cook as a child with her mother. Loretta joined us at the table and told us many stories about food and life in Malaysia. She is a witty host and a first class cook. In summary- a super evening, well worth the money, making new friends over superb food.

This was our first event and the Host made us most welcome (we were a bit early at their house) and the other 4 guests (that we did not know at all) were a good bunch as we had Great food and good conversation at the table. There was plenty of food and the Soup was Superb (best ever) and the Desert idea was novel and tasty.

Loretta was a lovely and very good host and I was made to feel very welcome. Each course of the Afternoon Tea was explained in detail with the ingredients content and how it was prepared/cooked, everything was tasty and new to my taste buds. A lovely introduction to Malaysian cuisine. Thank-you Loretta & hope to see you again soon.
